@Media Day One

Having just returned from the first day of the two day event @media, I can truly say that the guys at vivabit have certainly pulled out all the stops this year.

Not only is the line up impressive, with top names from all over the globe with regard to web design, accessibility and standards, but the venue where it is being held is as smart and as slick as they come. And to top it all off…all attendees got a bag with goodies, and no I don’t mean the kind at the standard conferences where the string breaks off after stuffing it full, but an actual BAG; which also contained 3 coloured stones which you could trade in for drinks at Sugar Reef in the evening!!!

After the morning registration, I was caught in the lift with a few other late attenders, including Dave Shea and Dan Cederholm. Sounds odd, but I was slighty in awe. Its funny how you see familiar faces at these events. Sitting in on talks where you can physically see individuals that you have read about or heard about through various blogs; who have written books that you refer to on a regular basis. People that you have the utmost respect for. That in itself is pretty amazing!

Highlights for me today include the opening talk by Eric Meyer, and the presentation by Jeffrey Veen on web 2.0. Two great speakers that know their topics well and know how to deliver these topics in a way that keeps you entertained!!!

I’m officially worn out by the intake of information, the watching of the footie match this afternoon, and the fab dins in China Town with Steve and Sharon, so its time to nod off as tomorrow is another day, which is scheduled to be a bit more technical, but that’s just the way I like it!!!

I have to say that most conferences you tend to leave having enjoyed a few of the discussions, but this one was pretty good all rounder event…next year is always an option!!!
