£190 and still going up!

I’m actually quite chuffed. When I signed up to do the 5km run, one of the questions they asked is how much they thought I could raise. I said £200…and honestly, that’s how much I thought I’d be able to get, and looky here, I have now reached £190…just a tenner away!

Needless to say I have since increased the target sum for this run.

According to Christian Aid, £190 is 2 teacher’s annual salaries in Bangladesh, plus basic essentials for an Angolian family. Quite a lot for what has been donated so far.

Its funny how there was so much fight for change last year with the G8 summit, but yet the politicians and governments have so far fallen short of meeting targets.

I wasn’t around to campaign for making poverty history, but it is something that I strongly believe in, and hope others follow too. So for those that have donated so far, THANK YOU, and to those that have still to donate…what are you waiting for?!?!? ;)

CSS Caching Hack

I’ve been coming across a problem with one of the benefits of using CSS for layout…caching!

For those of you that may update their css files on a site that you frequently visit, you need to consider the fact that even though the html may change, the css file will remain the same on the client side (due to the caching).

Stefan Hayden has found a fix for this, which he wrote around April (I guess I was a bit slow on this issue), so HURRAH, looks like there is a solution to accessing different versions of css files without the need of renaming the files! :D

Only a few days until I fly out to New York for a well deserved break!!!

Can’t wait, as this will be the first time I’ll actually get time to roam around the city properly. My previous trips have always been for a few days, whereas this trip will be for a week, and we’ll get to experience July 4th there too!!!

Web standards v2

Today someone asked how she could persuade a colleague to include accessibility and standards compliance in the requirements for a major site redesign. I can’t meet with every hostile boss and nay-sayer on the planet, gently persuading each of them to see the light. But I can talk to them through the quiet pages of DWWS 2e, if you would like me to.

Aahhh…the pain of convincing people that don’t realise the importance of accessibility and web standards!

Jeffrey Zeldman has released his second edition of his very successful book Designing with Web Standards (2nd Edition). Its available for pre-order on the US version of Amazon, but isn’t available here just yet.

For those that haven’t read his first edition book, I highly recommend it. And for those that thought you had it covered with standards compliancy…well I guess we’ve got more to catch up on!
