IE 7 (beta 2 preview)…is it any good?

Filed under: Browsers, Geek talk — caroline @ 9:47 pm

The beta 2 preview version for IE7 has been out a while now, but question is, is it any good compared to the other bad boy browsers that are out there at the moment? Granted, it is still in its beta phase, so isn’t the final release, but with the way previous versions of IE have been, I’m gonna have to be swayed by a miracle to get me to fully appreciate IE browsers the way I do the other competitor browsers out there now.

Its fact that a large majority of the web public choose to use the Bill Gates browser because they are windows users who are either not clued up on the web development world, or just don’t give a damn about the likes of firefox and opera…so the question is, do we even bother developing for these uber browsers or do we stick to what everyone uses.

I know what my answer to that question is hands down. Firefox is probably (with Camino close behind for the MAC users) one of the more standards compliant browsers that is taking the web dev world by storm. It seems to follow what the w3 body suggests, and is recommended by all well known designers, developers near and far. As developers, we should be creating pages that adhere to what the w3 stipulates are the standards of the web, and by doing so, we should develop pages suitable for the most standards compliant browser, because those that lack this now, will only get better later…rather than us backtracking from our fixes and hacks and such like which will only become redundant at a later date.

I have yet to go through IE7 beta 2…just for the pure reason that I can’t be arsed. Woohoo, it finally has multiple tabbing available…woohoo it has a zoom increase facility…but then safari, opera and firefox had that ages ago…big deal! IE6 has been around for so long, goodness knows how long it will take for the final release of IE7 to be created (with I probably assume will still be buggy, but then again it may all change, so there might not be a need to panic), but I can’t help but favour opera and firefox just for the little update messages built in the browsers to inform the user of a more recent version…which seem to be more frequent than the likes of IE.

But hey, I shall stop right there…to be fair none of the browsers are passing the ACID2 test, so I guess there’s no perfect browser out there…but until then, I’ll be happy with the Mozilla developer crew to continue doing what they do and make myself and many other geeks out there very happy!!!

Get bendy with yoga

David Sye

So I’ve been going on and on for ages about doing yoga, but its always been the case that whenever there’s a class at my local gym its always when I’m either at work or on the commute home. I could have booked myself on a class in town, but would rather be driving distance from the class than have to commute back after.

So…the wonderous people that are Flex Lifestyles have booked in the contortionist yogi David Sye to do a 6 week course starting this Monday. Attended a free class on Sunday, and wasn’t very flexible at all, but compared to the crazy postures David was doing, I’m not surprised I was paranoid. To be honest I didn’t feel as though I’d done anything UNTIL the following day when I was aching all over…GOOD STUFF!!!

I can see why its such a craze, and can’t wait to get into it properly…before you know it…I’ll be giving the likes of Madonna and Sting a run for their money…hahaha!

My claim to fame…

Well hardly worth shouting about, but my praise for the Carson Workshop guys can only be reiterrated from a quote from myself.

Not in any of the photos, which is a good thing as I do recall myself being a bit tired on that day, but yes…there we go…:-P

@media continued…

Filed under: Geek talk — caroline @ 9:28 pm

So I came into work and my boss said…”I’ve booked you on that 2 day conference”…completely forgetting what I’d sent her via email a month ago…so that’s it…I’m all booked on the @media event!

Should be interesting to see how it goes as I heard that last years event was quite good…and will be good to mingle with people in the same field of work, and bounce off ideas from each other, so can’t wait…am I sad for admitting I’m getting excited about a course to do with coding standards and such like? Oh dear!

So to all you fellow geeks out there…I’ll see you there!!!
